We all love this time of year! The sun is out, its gloriously hot and we are looking forward to our holiday (if lucky enough to be having one)! We are so busy enjoying the weather, we often forget about the harmful effects the rays are having on our skin.

The sun prematurely ages skin. Research into age spots, brown spots and wrinkles have shown that up to 90% are caused by the sun rather than simply aging. In addition to the fact that sunburn is not a cool look, there is an abundance of evidence to support it heightens skin cancer. One in five people develop skin cancer at some point in their life and one person dies from this every hour.

Although darker skin types are less likely to burn, do not be fooled into thinking these skin types are less at risk. Additionally, certain medication and laser hair removal can make your skin even more sensitive to the sun. The best way to protect your skin is to wear a high sun protection on exposed areas each day.

There are some fantastic sun products available with built-in moisturisers, such as Jan Marini Antioxidant Face Protectant SPF30 which is waterproof and hydrating (also comes in a body block) and Agera Ultra Performing Sunscreen SPF 25 which contain anti-aging peptides. Neostrata Daytime Protection Cream SPF15 is a light oil free moisturizer which is un-perfumed and has adequate protection for every day use in cool to mild weather conditions.

There is nothing more important for your skincare regime to protect you from harmful elements and aging skin than a good SPF, and you should use one all year round, not simply during hot weather. It is essential that you regularly re-apply your sun protector every couple of hours when basking in the sun; and although it is pretty pointless mentioning this to you sun-worshipper the hours between 10 am and 4 pm are the times you are advised to cover up or sit in a shaded area, as this is when the sun is at its hottest. If you insist on sunbathing at this time, ensure you do not burn and take regular breaks.

To increase the benefits of each product Jan Marini has five steps to protect and improve the health of your skin, such as Bioglycolic BioClear Cleanser or Bioglycolic Facial Cleanser, C-Esta Serum, Bioglycolic or BioClear Cream, Transformation Cream or Age Intervention Cream.

For those of you who already have sun damaged skin there are many excellent products to help address the problem. Jan Marini Bioglycolic Lightening Gel is excellent for pigmentation caused by sun damage. The five steps consist of a cleanser to remove any dirt or build up of pollution on the skin. This is then followed by applying the Bioglycolic Face Lotion to aid pigmentation and to assist in the removal of built-up dead skin cells; this results in smoother, softer skin. Thirdly the C-ESTA serum is applied which is a highly potent penetrable form of vitamin C; this rejuvenates the skin aiding a smoother and suppler skin. In the morning the Jan Marini Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 30 is the final step, protecting your skin from further sun damage. Jan Marini Transformation Cream is the final stage in the evening; this moisturizer is hydrating, has anti- aging ingredients and is very healing for the skin.

Agera is a highly popular and effective brand. This is a vast range and will be discussed in wider detail at a further date. Agera products have a high concentration of antioxidant alpha hyddroxi acids and retinols. Retinols are an ideal ingredient for reversing the signs of aging and smoothing wrinkles. AHA (alpha hydroxi acids) is effective too in the anti-aging process. They are excellent for acne prone skin as controls bacteria.
